About

I'm Jess, a RYT-200 and I have a confession to make: from the moment I entered the yoga world, I felt like a poser.

I can't do most of the fancy inversion poses you see glorified on social media. I sometimes eat candy for breakfast. I swear too much, am sarcastic, and tend to get emotional quickly. I've never felt poised or athletic, and am prone to clumsiness. Yoga studios make me super anxious and while I (for unexplained reasons) have grown accustomed to teaching in studio, it is still extremely hard to get me out of the house for my own practice. I'd much rather meditate with my cats in PJs than on a mat in studio.

No doubt about it, I felt like the biggest poser practicing yoga for a very long time.

But what's great about yoga is that if you stick with it long enough, your journey unfolds and your practice follows you off the mat, expanding beyond those pesky inversions (ie, being a literal poser!) and acting as a compass to guide you through all facets of life. On my particular path, lots of things went down (I go over all of that at length on the podcast, trust!), but a huge realization I had was learning it's not so bad to be weird. Not only that, maybe weird isn't even a thing. Maybe lots of folks have imposter syndrome and like Sour Patch Kids before 11 a.m. and we're just all afraid to admit it until we get in a room together and begin chanting "Om." Yoga is all about embracing your truth and letting it shine out, it's about emptying all of the anxieties and nagging voices in your brain to instead embrace the present moment. To embrace that none of the "outside stuff" even matters when you're in connection with your breath and body. To embrace that we are all the same on the mat. We are all posers.

Whether you haven't found a home studio in your area, struggle with social anxiety, don't have transportation to get into a studio, or simply prefer a more laid-back PJ yoga experience, this blog is here for you.  Whatever the case may be, I'm here to help you on your yoga journey in a way that feels authentic to you and facilitates inquiry, growth, and balance in your life both on and off the mat.

Welcome to The Posers Club. It's so nice to meet you.

XO,
Jess
