Mindfulness in the Time of Coronavirus -- A Guided Relaxation

Greetings, friends.

March 2020 has kicked off with its own unique type of madness, with the upcoming presidential election and now the spread of this new and uncertain pandemic. Add in widespread online panic and media-driven hype, and it makes for the perfect storm of anxiety for lots of us trying to simply go about our days and survive the best we can.

I'll admit that it's been very hard for me to keep things in perspective and stay positive through all of this, despite my connection to yoga and mindfulness, and as a yoga teacher, that's tough. A couple of days ago, I found myself in that evil loop of obsessively checking my Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates on the coronavirus, and very quickly became exhausted from the frenzy I'd whipped myself into. I felt like such an imposter...I work in wellness and am so passionate about helping others stay grounded, and there I was, physically sick with anxiety and buying into the fear machine along with everyone else.

But isn't that life? Without dark, there is no light. Nobody is perfect or peaceful all the time. We will always slip up and find ourselves feeding into our own suffering, but that is exactly why we must return to ourselves and our practice. This is why yoga exists. We must return to the present moment, however briefly, to come back to our breath and remember that we are here. We are strong. We are enough. We will be okay.

On that note, I recorded a guided meditation this morning for anyone who needs it during this difficult time. It's just over 20 minutes long (although you can absolutely listen to it in chunks if needed) and will help calm and relax the physical body using connection to six different colors. Feel free to use this today or anytime in the future, and to share with anyone you think may benefit from this assisted relaxation exercise.

My hope is this meditation will provide comfort and ease. I hope it serves you well. Please follow my Facebook page if you'd like additional links for mindfulness. I'll be sharing some of my favorite online resources later today on that page for anyone interested.

XO
Jess
